Modes of Transportation

Grayslake is easily accessible by all modes of transportation.

Major Roads & Highways

The Village has excellent access to major roads and highways. Interstate 94 (Tri-State Tollway) is six miles to the east of the Village, and U.S. Route 45 passes through the eastern end of the Village. Illinois Routes 83, 120, and 137 intersect the Village. These roadways allow for commercial trucking operations in Central Lake County, and the area is served by over 65 local and long-haul cartage and terminal operators.

Metra

Metra, the Chicago area's regional commuter rail service, provides a full daily schedule of commuter services from Grayslake to Chicago's "Loop" on two separate railroad lines. Travel time to Chicago by commuter is approximately 60-75 minutes.

Airports

Grayslake's unique location allows reasonable access to two major full-service airports and two corporate service airports. Full-service air transportation is available at O'Hare International Airport (Chicago) 40 miles south and Mitchell Field (Milwaukee) 40 miles to the north. Corporate aviation service is available locally at Waukegan's National Airport and Grayslake's Campbell Airport, which also provides in-air freight service.

Waukegan Harbor

Additionally, the Village of Grayslake is approximately 18 miles west of Waukegan Harbor, the closest public dock on Lake Michigan. Waukegan Harbor amenities include a 14-acre interior basin, 200-foot channel, 19-foot depth, and commercial slip access. The Winthrop Harbor North Point Marina features 1,500 private boating slips.
