Garbage and Recycling Services

SWALCO Collections

New Residents

New residents should contact the Village of Grayslake two (2) weeks prior to moving to set-up water, sewer, garbage, and recycling service. Calling two (2) weeks prior to moving insures that the bill for these services is placed in your name and, if necessary, allows ample time for the delivery or garbage and recycling containers to the property. For more information, or to set up water, sewer, garbage, and recycling service, please contact the Request for Service System at (847) 223-8515.

The Village contracts with Waste Management, Inc. for refuse pick-up and recycling services. When you call the Village Hall to establish an account, you will be advised of your pick-up day. Containers may be on the parkway only from 6:00 P.M. the night before pick-up until 6:00 P.M. the day of pick-up. The Village’s contract provides for the pick-up of garbage deposited only in the automated cart. If you have additional garbage for pick-up, you may call Waste Management directly at (800) 796-9696 and make arrangements with them for a special pick-up. Waste Management will charge you a separate fee for any special pick-ups which are not included in the standard service provided by the Village contract. Also contact Waste Management if you wish to request an additional garbage container. For all other questions please call the Village's Request for Service System at 847-223-8515.

    Landscape Waste Disposal

Illinois law requires that landscape waste, consisting of leaves, grass, clippings and woody material, be excluded from landfill disposal. Residents who wish to dispose of their landscape waste have three options. First, you can create a compost pile which will naturally decompose the yard waste. Secondly, you can subscribe to Waste Management’s Yard Waste Pick-Up for a flat monthly fee. Thirdly, you can purchase landscape waste stickers. These stickers are available at Jewel/Osco and Ace Hardware on Route 120 in Grayslake. To arrange these seasonal services, contact Waste Management directly at (800) 796-9696.

If you are not interested in subscribing to the once-a-week pick-up, Waste Management also offers residents a one-time yard waste pick-up for $10.00. Please call Waste Management at (800) 796-9696 to arrange this service.

Leaf vacuuming is another option available to residents. This service, offered in the fall, is included as apart of your current monthly garbage rate and is of no additional charge to residents. Watch the monthly newsletter or contact the Request 4 Service System at 847-223-8515 for leaf vacuuming dates.

Please do not put leaves in the street. Waste Management will not collect your leaves if they are not placed in the appropriate location.
