Grayslake has many unique facilities that set the Village apart from other
communities and enhance its reputation. The College
of Lake County, the High Technology Campus, and
Center for Economic Development, with their extensive personnel
training and business services, are located in Grayslake. The College of Lake
County has a consistent enrollment of more than 15,000 students.
The new University Center of Lake County on the Grayslake Campus opened in 2005. This facility, which is a partnership between 17 colleges and universities working collaboratively to increase both the access to and diversity of educational options in Lake County, will be located on the College of Lake County Grayslake campus. This is the first and only such educational institution of this type in the state of Illinois. This unique institution will enable area residents to obtain bachelor and master degrees in a wide variety of fields from various accredited institutions throughout the state.
The Village is the proud home of the Lake County Fairgrounds, which hosts one of the most popular annual county fairs in Illinois. The Lake County Fair and various events held annually at the fairgrounds throughout the year draw more than 500,000 people to Grayslake from all over the Midwest. Events include antiques and collectibles shows, computer shows, antique cars and swap meets.
Grayslake offers many shopping opportunities in its various business areas located on Atkinson Road, Route 83, Route 45, Route 120, and the historic downtown Center Street district. Grayslake’s central location puts residents within a fifteen-minute drive to major regional shopping centers, several golf courses, the Chain of Lakes and Lake Michigan marinas, beaches, state parks, hundreds of acres of forest preserves, winter skiing and snowmobiling, Six Flags/Great America Amusement Park and the world famous Ravinia Outdoor Music Festival.
