The ability to recycle shoes is latest addition to the recycling center at the Grayslake Public Works facility located at 585 Berry Avenue (off of Route 83 just north of Fredrick Road). The Reuse-A-Shoe program offered through the Village of Grayslake and SWALCO provides residents with the opportunity to recycle unwanted shoes. Instead of throwing away the shoes, recycling them will mean that 95% or more of all the shoes' materials will be reused. The recycling center is open from Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Currently all types of shoes can be brought in and collected, with the exception of: rollerblades, ice skates, and winter boots. All shoe contributions must be in a pair as well as tied or connected to its pairing shoe.
For more information, visit SWALCO's Reuse-A-Shoe web page or call 847-336-9340.
