Welcome to the Village of Grayslake website. Whether you are a current citizen of Grayslake or someone just interested in finding out more about the Village, we hope you find the information here both interesting and useful.
The Village of Grayslake, established in 1895, is located in central Lake County, approximately forty (40) miles north of the Chicago business “Loop” and fourteen (14) miles west of Lake Michigan. Neighboring communities include Libertyville and Mundelein to the southeast, Gurnee to the east, Lindenhurst to the north, and Round Lake and Round Lake Beach to the west. Gray’s Lake, a 78 acre recreational lake, is located within the corporate boundaries of the Village.
A 2003 special census showed that the population of Grayslake had risen to 20,330 total residents. This is a 10% increase from the 2000 census total of 18,506 residents, and a 175% increase from the 1990 census figure of 7,388 residents. Village Building Department statistics show a continued increasing population, with a projected fully developed level of 24,100 residents.
Grayslake’s corporate boundaries encompass approximately 12 square miles of land that consists of commercial, residential and community development. The largest single land use is permanently preserved open space.
The Village has several industrial/office parks and new commercial developments within its borders. Commercial properties currently under development or recently completed include the 70 acre Center Street Square, Washington Square, the Mapleview Shopping complex, which includes the Jewel/Osco, the Atkinson Industrial Park which is a 240,000 square foot office/industrial facility, Atkinson Center which is an 11 acre multi-use commercial-office-industrial park, and the Route 83 Business Center.
In 2003, Lake Forest Hospital began construction on building one of a planned five building hospital campus in Grayslake. A total of 145,000 square feet of new medical office projects are already developed in the area of the new medical complex.
MOSQUITO ABATEMENT SERVICES
While the Village continues its efforts to reduce the mosquito population through a variety of measures, individual residents can take these preventative steps to help reduce the impact of mosquitoes on their property:
VILLAGE BOARD APPROVES ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR THE LAWN MOWER REBATE
AND 50/50 RAIN BARREL PROGRAMS
The Village Board has authorized additional funds for these very popular programs. Funds for the Lawn Mower Rebate and 50/50 Rain Barrel Programs were exhausted earlier this year after just a few weeks. Residents interested in participating in these programs are encouraged to submit requests as soon as possible, as funds are limited.
To qualify, the Village requires proof of payment (online email confirmations of purchases are not acceptable without canceled check or credit card statement). Receipts must be marked as "paid" and clearly show the name of the store or company from where the item was purchased. Please also include a copy of the owner's manual/instructions that came along with the lawn mower or rain barrel.

SHOREWOOD ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The Shorewood Road / Drury Lane Reconstruction Project has resumed. It is designed to bring positive impacts to the community by improving safety on the road through increased street widths, the addition of turn lanes at appropriate subdivision entrances and access points, and by the reduction of the curve at the southeast corner of the project. Upon the completion of this project, these roads will meet the Federal Highway Safety Standards for roads of this size and nature.
In order to complete this construction project in the shortest of amount of time, minimize the inconveniences, and keep the road safer, portions of Shorewood, Drury and Lake Street must be closed to through traffic in both directions. Weather permitting these closures will last until the beginning of July.
The Village would like to thank you for your continued patience during this inconvenient and disruptive process. Please click here to obtain more information and a detour map.
In response to citizen input, the Village will also be constructing a bike path along the north side of the road from Lake Street to Route 83 this summer.
The Carillon North Golf Course and Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve entrances will remain open at all times.
